MARK KADIJK
Assistant Principal - Viola
Mark Kadijk grew up in Taber and Lethbridge and began playing violin at the age of 6 under the instruction of (violist) Philip Skelton. He continued studying violin with (violist) Katherine Headrick and then with (violist) Johannes Gürth. Mark played second violin with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra (LSO) during his teenage years. After holding viola at a distance for a very long time, he finally embraced viola and the ‘Alto Clef’ when the need arose for a violist in a church performance of excerpts from Handel’s ‘Messiah’ in 2012. At his first viola lesson with former LSO principal violist Graham Tagg, Mark was encouraged to join the LSO viola section for the February 2013 Opera Workshop performances of Strauss’ Die Fledermaus. This concert is Mark’s 10 th anniversary back with the LSO!
Mark is a Professional Chemist and has worked in pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and agriculture related chemistry roles for the past 25 years. He enjoys mountain sports and camping with his wife Sylvia and daughters Solana and Sarah. Mark enjoys running and hopes to complete his first Marathon and then 50km Ultramarathon later this year.
